		<description>

Austrian dance collective Potpourri moves between expressive richness of Hip Hop and House Dance Culture and Contemporary Art.

With their wide-ranged performance and managing skills it has been a major concern of Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer to make the niche dance styles accessible to a broader audience since 2006. Their work includes national and international dance performances, theatre productions, music and commercial videos and teaching.

In 2009 the collective founded the international Streetdance Festival Flavourama in Salzburg, which hosts more than 2000 people every year and is known all around the globe.
In 2024, Potpourri Dance was awarded with the City of Salzburg’s Prize for Art and Culture for their year-long commitment. According to the gremium, Potpourri Dance’s work

combines the city's classical high culture with the dynamic subculture of Hip Hop and House Dance, creating new, creative spaces for intercultural exchange.

Kulturfonds Award for Art and Culture 2024
Olivia Mitterhuemer &#38;amp; Farah Deen

Potpourri Association

This year's prize for art and culture from the City of Salzburg's Cultural Fund goes to Potpourri - Verein für Tanz und Nachwuchsförderung. Founded by Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer, the association has established itself as a central point of contact for professional dance art in the field of hip-hop and house dance since 2006.

Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer are not only active as dancers and choreographers, but also as passionate promoters of an inclusive and diverse cultural scene. With their commitment, they make a significant contribution to making marginalized groups more visible through the art of dance and offering them a platform.

Flavourama Festival - a bridge between high culture and subculture

One of the association's outstanding projects is the internationally renowned Flavourama Festival, which has attracted a broad audience of amateurs and professional dancers from all over the world to Salzburg since its inception. The festival combines the city's classical high culture with the dynamic subculture of hip-hop and house dance, creating new, creative spaces for intercultural exchange.
The Flavourama Festival is much more than just a dance event. It encompasses a variety of innovative cultural formats, including dance battles, discussion rounds, workshops and interactive dance tours, which are designed to promote both dance and culture.

		<description>VAKUUM - Dance piece for young audience (and more)

In a whirlwind of social pressure and constant
expectation, four house dancers move in a space filled with uncertainty and the
burden of choices. Their dance is about the inability to breathe in a vacuum of
expectations and constraints, while the world around them calls out for
answers.

Vacuum is a powerful and moving portrayal of the
challenges and hopes, that today's generation faces.

As part of Young Vibes, SZENE Salzburg's program for young audiences, the two choreographers Olivia Mitterhuemer &#38;amp; Farah Deen from Potpourri Dance present their latest work Vakuum. At the beginning of the process, the duo embarked on a research phase at schools in Salzburg to find out, together with teenagers, what the young generation is concerned about.

A co-production with SZENE Salzburg.

		<description>Streetdance Amadé - Production for Mozartwoche 2025 by Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg

Classical music meets street dance: in Streetdance Amadé dancers
from hip-hop, house dance, breaking and funk styles encounter
a DJ and a pianist, so as to explore the common parallels
between the pulsating rhythms of street- and club dances and the
timeless sounds of the immortal composers Mozart and Bach.
The various chapters of the performance offer the opportunity for improvisation and thus a range of creative possibilities
for extraordinary and unique moments. The exciting performance
allows tradition and modern to merge with one another in a fascinating way, thereby opening up completely new perspectives.

With music by Mozart and Bach, combined with various Hip Hop (inspired) beats.
Premiered at Mozartwoche 2025 at OVAL Salzburg.&#38;nbsp;
Artistic direction &#38;amp; concept: Farah Deen, Olivia Mitterhuemer

Dance: Mustapha Ajdour, Karin Cheng, Farah Deen, Olivia Mitterhuemer

Music: Marios Stefoudis aka DJ Just-a-Kid, Jordina Millà Benseny (piano)

		<description>Build your own club! &#124; House Dance Workshops in Schools&#38;nbsp;

"Build Your Own Club!"

 aims to inspire teenagers and young adults through the movement language of House Dance.

With its captivating music that particularly appeals to young people, this art form is easily accessible and provides a creative outlet to take a break from everyday life.

Through basic steps, groove exercises, and rhythm games, students can create their own imaginary club and express themselves beyond societal conventions.
Besides teaching movement and dance in their classes, Farah and Olivia also take some time to talk about their lives and careers as full-time dancers, to inspire the younger generation for creative jobs.

In 2025, this project is held in different schools in Salzburg and surroundings, funded by OeAD &#38;amp;

BMWKMS.

		<description>PUSH - Performance for young audience

The dance performance PUSH brings the idea of empowerment to life. Two dancers reflect the inner attitudes and resistance of young people in the school context. In the course of the piece, the dancers encourage each other to overcome their own fears - through self-confidence and the power of community.

The circular structure of the performance symbolizes unity and the common pursuit of "safe(r) spaces" in which the artists feel comfortable and can free themselves from any sense of shame and social constraints.

House dance emerged in the underground clubs of Chicago and New York at the end of the 1970s and has since spread worldwide.

The piece was conceived and rehearsed at the Hector Peterson School in Kreuzberg, Berlin. 15 school classes experienced and helped shape the artistic process during workshops and rehearsal visits.

		<description>4 A.M.—DANCE THEATRE PRODUCTION

Pulsating sounds,
ecstatically dancing bodies, a sense of freedom. In their dance performance 4
A.M., choreographers Olivia Mitterhuemer and Farah Deen invite their audience
to delve into the spheres of House culture.

Strongly influenced by
the Afro-American and LGBTIQ+ community, House culture emerged in the clubs of
Chicago and New York in the early 80s. Dance and music were primarily shaped
by discrimination and oppression&#38;nbsp; and the
need of expression.

Referring to the
inclusive and non-judgmental character of the culture, the music’s repetitive
and upbeat quality serves as the central anchor for the four performers’
physical experience. Inspired by various encounters with the European and
American scene, they bring different human relationships on stage, all within a
spectrum between self-doubt, distance, intimacy and ecstasy. An homage to the
House club as a safe place, where social conventions disappear. At 4 A.M.,
House beats and physical exchange open up a space of danced transcendence and
collective freedom - based on the performers‘ personal experiences as white
women and women of colour being socialised in Europe.

FRIEND.SHIFT—DUET&#38;nbsp;

Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer are linked by a
long-term, intensive friendship, which has been and is strengthened in
particular through many shared experiences in dance. For many years, the two
Austrian women have combined their physical and mental connection with their
passion for house dance. Above all, the house step “Chase”, also known as
“Hurdle”, inspired them both in terms of movement and in the literal sense for
their common work which is based on consonance, harmony and blind
understanding.&#38;nbsp;

In their piece "Friend.shift" they
embark on a journey through diverse (life) positions and numerous movement
patterns. In doing so, they keep on finding new perspectives and expressions.

Dance &#38;amp; Choreography: Farah Deen &#38;amp; Olivia

Music: Kwamé Ba

Outside Eyes: Tina Rauter, Khoudia Touré, Philippe Riera

The piece was supported by POOL - Raum für Kultur St. Gallen (CH), Tanz*Hotel Vienna, CND Pantin (FR) &#38;amp; Bears in the Park (AT). The artists had the opportunity to work on the piece in 4 artists residencies. The one at Tanz*Hotel Vienna was also artistically supported by Bert Gstettner.&#38;nbsp;
